'They have another gem' - Brighton player ratings at Coventry: Brilliant midfielder scores 9/10 and assist master strikes again
How the Seagulls rated during their 5-0 win at Coventry City
Brighton cruised to a comfortable win at newly promoted Coventry City.
Goals from Charalampos Kostoulas, Malick Yalcouye, a Pascal Gross penalty, a worldie from Lewis Dunk and a fifth from Yasin Ayari sealed the victory. The win moved Brighton to fourth in the table on seven points from four matches. They are the current highest scorers in the Premier League with 13 goals.
Albion opened the scoring on 35 minutes through Kostoulas. Olivier Boscagli whipped a ball into the box and Coventry could only half clear. Gross found Kostoulas and the Greek striker's first and second touch were excellent and his crisp angled finish flashed beyond former Brighton keeper Carl Rushworth.
Albion's second arrived on 51 minutes and it was another for the impressive Yalcouye. The Ivory Coast under-23 won possession and surged through from midfield. His finish when one-on-one with Rushworth was powerful and accurate.
The third arrived on 70 minutes as Gross pinged home a penalty after Kostoulas was brought down in the box. Dunk then capped a fine display with the best goal of the afternoon as he picked out the top corner from 35 yards. Brilliant from the skipper. Yasin Ayari netted a late fifth against his former loan club with a nice effort from the edge of the box.
Brighton player ratings
Bart Verbruggen - 8: Very good low save to deny Rudoni on 26 minutes. The Dutch international then topped it as he tipped Onyeka's powerful volley over the bar. Crucial to Brighton’s win today. Perhaps felt he had a point to prove with Rushworth at the other end.
Ferdi Kadioglu - 7: Much better from the Turkey international today. Played with the intensity of last season and big improvement from his recent displays.
Luka Vuskovic - 6: Almost scored his second in two matches as his header was cleared off the line from Pascal Gross deep set piece.
Lewis Dunk - 8: Scored what must be the best goal of his excellent career with a 35-yard belter that flew into the top corner. Also, an excellent last ditch tackle to deny Mason-Clark at the near post in the first half.
Olivier Boscagli - 6: The French defender has such a good left footed delivery. It was his cross into the box that teed-up Kostoulas' opening goal. Played at left back and has been a key man for Brighton this term.
Pascal Gross - 7: Very good from Gross today and helped Albion control the midfield. His assist for the opener was his 49th in the PL. Fired one effort just wide from the edge of the box on 36 minutes but his well-taken penalty was never in doubt.
Yasin Ayari - 8: A nice throughball forward to tee-up Gomez's early chance. Enjoyed his return to his former loan club and even netted a well taken fifth from the edge of the box. He made one outstanding recovery run in the first half to thwart a Coventry counter.
Diego Gomez - 6: Fired a low effort wide of the post after just five minutes. Should have scored really but another solid display in the right of the midfield.
Malick Yalcouye - 9: His second goal of the season and it was very well taken. He won possession, burst forward and finished superbly. Covered plenty of ground from his No 10 role and carried out his defensive duties well. Kept his passing neat and simple. What a find. Replaced by Andres on 65 minutes
Maxim De Cuyper - 7: A solid display on the left from the Belgian. Pole-axed by Awoniyi's elbow as the Coventry striker was sent-off.
Charalampos Kostoulas - 8: Fired an effort into the side netting on 15 minutes but scored a cracker on 35 minutes. First touch was excellent and a sharp low finish. He also won the penalty for Gross to convert.
Substitutions: Adres (Yalcouye, 65), Struijk (Vuskovic, 78), Costinha (Gomez, 84), O'Riley (Kostoulas, 84).
