‘Nailed the tactical side’ – Baldwin hails Wick’s win over Lingfield
Wick’s composure and attention to detail delighted manager Lee Baldwin as his side gained three Southern Combination Premier points with a 3-2 win awat to Lingfield.
The Dragons made the long midweek trip to Whyteleafe for the match following a 4-1 defeat to Haywards Heath at Bognor’s Nyewood Lane and were soon ahead thanks to an own goal.
Wick looked the better side and went further ahead when Ethan Roberts struck just before half-time and were firmly in control when Joe Beck scored ten minutes into the second half.
The hosts narrowed the gap with two late goals but Baldwin said: “It was a really good result – we were good value for the 3-0 lead against a useful side with some very skilful individuals, but we stuck to our game plan so well and absolutely nailed the tactical side of things.

"We could have been five or six up at one point, then towards the end we showed we are a young side with a little bit of naivety. We had lost three games on the bounce and a couple of silly mistakes gave away a couple of goals.
"This result has been coming though, as we have been losing games and just by looking at the final result you would think we have been battered and that just hasn’t been the case. We have played really well in games we have been beaten in and we have felt unjustified to have lost.”
Wick entertain Little Common at Nyewood Lane this Saturday (Oct 24) and are building up to their Sussex Senior Transport Cup home tie against Worthing which will be played at Crabtree Park on Tuesday, November 17 (7.30pm).
