Wimborne Town knock out Crawley Town - Reds on end of embarrassing FA Cup exit
Crawley Town’s wretched season hit a new low as they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Wimborne Town – who play three divisions below them in the Southern League.
Seung-Woo Yang put the Dorset non-league step three club ahead just nine minutes into the televised contest – and after the Reds failed to turn pressure andattempts on goal into an equaliser, Cam Munn made it 2-0 with 11 minutes of the 90 to go.
There was no coming back for interim boss Kevin Blackwell’s side and their miserable season – which has seen them slump to the bottom of League Two with only two wins from their first 12 games – gets worse.
Reds fans must have thought a first round tie against a side three divisions below offered a chance to inject new life into their season – instead it has ended in a terrible defeat that will leave supporters demanding answers.
It’s the second successive season Crawley have been knocked out in the first round by non-league opposition – a year ago they crashed to a 3-0 defeat away to National League Boreham Wood at the same stage.
The Wimborne loss provoked a furious reaction from fans on social media, with a number suggesting it was the worst result in the club’s history, others saying there was no coming back from it, and some saying the club needed changes of personnel from the top to the bottom.
