Chichester has been put in the spotlight as the only UK entry in Expedia’s Destinations of the Year for 2027.
The international travel recognition has been welcomed by The Great Sussex Way, the organisation dedicated to promoting Chichester District as a visitor destination and supporting its visitor economy.

The recognition features in Expedia’s annual Unpack ’27: The Trends in Travel report, which highlights destinations expected to attract growing interest from travellers in the year ahead.
According to Expedia, searches for Chichester have increased by 30% year-on-year, reflecting rising interest in this historic city from both domestic visitors and from across the world.
Proudly supported by Chichester District Council, The Great Sussex Way is dedicated to raising the profile of the area through its website, social media, newsletters and marketing campaigns.
These activities have helped generate nearly 80,000 referrals to tourism businesses this year alone.
Expedia’s annual report explores emerging travel trends and destinations, drawing on travel search data, traveller research and social listening.
Its Destinations of the Year list is based on increases in flight and accommodation searches on Expedia, placing Chichester alongside nine other destinations around the world, including locations in Japan, Australia, Mexico, Italy and even the Grand Canyon in the US.
The recognition highlights the distinctive combination of history, culture, countryside and coast that makes Chichester and the surrounding area an attractive choice for a UK break.
Renowned for its magnificent cathedral, Roman heritage, independent shops, welcoming cafés and vibrant cultural scene, visitors can explore centuries of history in Chichester’s characterful streets, enjoy world-class theatres and galleries, and discover an impressive choice of restaurants and places to stay.
From there visitors can enjoy memorable days out and longer breaks with the rolling hills and picturesque villages of the South Downs National Park providing a beautiful setting for walking, cycling and exploring, while the nearby coastline offers sandy beaches, pretty harbours, water sports and unspoilt natural scenery.
Danielle Dunfield, CEO of The Great Sussex Way, said: “The Expedia report is a fantastic endorsement of the work we have been doing at The Great Sussex Way, raising the profile of this very special part of West Sussex and its stunning cathedral city, Chichester. More importantly, it shines a spotlight on the extraordinary mix of independent shops, pubs, restaurants, attractions and places to stay, run by the very people who give this area its distinctive character.
"We thank Chichester District Council for their ongoing support.”
She said Expedia’s recognition presents an important opportunity to build on the area’s growing international profile and encourage more people to visit in 2027, along with a platform for tourism and hospitality businesses to showcase their offering to new audiences.
