Thousands of people visited the Cathedral between 23 and 31 October to enjoy the spectacular display of light, colour, moving images and music, created by internationally acclaimed artistic collaboration Luxmuralis.

Making its Sussex debut, Illuminating Art took audiences on a journey through centuries of artistic creativity, with projections and an original musical score bringing the Cathedral's historic architecture to life after dark.

Visitors were quick to share their enthusiasm on social media, with comments including “Went this evening – brilliant!” and “Was magical, loved it.”

Another visitor wrote: “It was stunning, the visit lasts around an hour, and it was definitely worth the price,” while another described it as “amazing, well worth the visit”.

Rebecca Lewry-Gray, Visitor Experience Manager at Chichester Cathedral, said:

“We've been delighted by the response to Illuminating Art and it's been lovely to read so many positive comments from visitors.

“We'd like to thank everyone who came along and supported the Light Experience, particularly those who booked in advance and helped make it such a successful fundraising event for the Cathedral.

“It's always a pleasure to welcome people through our doors, whether they're regular visitors or discovering the Cathedral for the first time. We hope many will return over the coming weeks as we prepare for Advent and Christmas.”

LOOKING AHEAD TO ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS

With its Annual Light Experience concluded, Chichester Cathedral is preparing for a busy Advent and Christmas season, with special services, music and family activities offering plenty of reasons to visit.

The season begins with the atmospheric Advent Procession on Sunday 29 November at 4.30pm, a candlelit service featuring readings, congregational carols and music sung by the Cathedral Choir.

Families can also enjoy The Greatest Gift, a free festive trail inviting children and their grown-ups to explore the Cathedral, discover the Christmas story and uncover the special gifts hidden within it.

The Cathedral's popular Carol Services take place from 18 to 21 December, while Christmas Eve brings Children's Carols at the Crib, with two opportunities for younger visitors to enjoy the Christmas story through carols and the building of the Christmas crib.

Visitors are invited to experience the Cathedral throughout the festive season, from the beauty of its Christmas trees and candlelit services to the uplifting sound of the Cathedral Choir.
