Residents across Burgess Hill enjoyed a packed programme of free activities during the October half term, with families and young people taking part in a variety of activities. All activities have been organised by Burgess Hill Town Council, but the events could not be possible without the community groups and organisations who help put them on.

The week began with a Badminton Taster Session at The Triangle, giving children the opportunity to learn a new sport or develop their existing skills in a fun and supportive environment.
The final Family Fun Session of 2026 also took place on Monday, welcoming 47 families for a day of activities and entertainment. Children enjoyed an inflatable assault course, giant train track and drawing workshops with artist James from The Comic Club. Games and crafts were delivered by The King's Church Mid-Sussex, while The Budding Foundation provided a bulb-planting activity for families to enjoy.

Author Sally Simms attended to lead a special storytime session based on her Heartkin series, which captures an autistic world through monster characters. Parents and carers were also able to access information and support from local organisations including Early Help, the NHS Oral Health Team, Burgess Hill Youth and Makaton Jenny.
The Town Council would like to thank The Budding Foundation for sponsoring the event and The King's Church Mid-Sussex for their support in co-organising the session.

On Tuesday, Young Carers Fun Day had a woodland adventure organised by Burgess Hill Youth Club, the Town Council, and Lost Woods. Participants explored nature, took part in games and activities, relaxed in hammocks and enjoyed lunch provided by The Mustard Seed Café, making for a memorable day outdoors.
Jackie Cooper, Chair of Burgess Hill Youth Club said " The Young Carer days are one of the highlights of Burgess Hill Youth's calendar. It is great to see everyone enjoying being together, relaxed and having fun. Our adventures in the woods this time proved to be so popular we are planning more of these for the future."

The programme continued on Wednesday with Creative Community's Halloween Craft Sessions, where 51 children created their own Halloween-themed sock characters. From cats and ghosts to a range of imaginative designs, the workshops showcased the creativity of local young people.

Jo Homan, Chair of the Burgess Hill Creative Community Hub, commented "We had a wonderful morning at the Hub. The children - and our volunteers - thoroughly enjoyed our spooky craft morning. Their custom spooky creatures were made out of socks - including ghosts, cats, pumpkins, and spiders - alongside sculpting miniature models using magic clay. These half-term sessions are only possible thanks to our incredible team of volunteers who give up their time to help nurture creativity in our community. We love working with the Burgess Hill Town Council Community Team, who organise all these great free activities throughout the year!".
Alongside the scheduled activities, the popular Halloween Trail ran throughout the week in Burgess Hill town centre. Children followed a treasure map to help Pirate Pete find his missing treasure, visiting participating businesses and discovering clues displayed in shop windows before collecting a prize on completion.
