Care home sets sail for Hastings Pirate Day

Residents and team members at Mountside Care Home got into the swashbuckling spirit ahead of one of Hastings’ best-loved annual celebrations by holding their very own pirate-themed day.

Hastings Pirate Day attracts buccaneers of all ages to the town each year, with a weekend of sea shanties, live music and family-friendly activities taking place throughout Hastings Old Town.

Although residents at Mountside were unable to experience the festivities in the Old Town directly, the care home was determined not to miss out and created its own celebration, filled with pirates, smiles and seaside fun.

Residents and colleagues donned their finest pirate outfits and embraced the occasion with plenty of laughter and friendship. The event also provided an opportunity to celebrate Hastings’ rich maritime heritage and its historic links to the sea and free trade.

Kimberley, Activities Coordinator at Mountside Care Home said: “Hastings Pirate Day is such a well-loved local tradition, and we wanted our residents to feel part of the excitement. We may not have discovered any buried treasure, but we certainly enjoyed a wonderful day filled with laughter, friendship and happy memories. Everyone embraced the buccaneer spirit brilliantly.”

The celebration formed part of Mountside Care Home’s varied programme of activities, designed to help residents remain connected to local events, traditions and the wider Hastings community.
