How can communities turn ideas into action? And how can people work together to make change happen in their neighbourhoods and beyond?

These questions will be at the heart of the third annual festival, taking place on Saturday 7 November, from 1pm to 7pm, at One O Four, The Hornet, Chichester. The event is free to attend, with tickets available online.

Under the theme How Does Change Happen?, the festival will bring together people working on projects involving the environment, housing, food, transport, public health, heritage and community development. It aims to encourage collaboration, share practical experience and explore how local initiatives can help address some of the major challenges facing society.

From climate change and pollution to the shortage of affordable housing and growing concerns about food security, many of these challenges are interconnected. The festival will explore how the built environment provides a common thread, linking the city with its surrounding landscape, farmland, rivers, harbour and coastline.

The afternoon will offer visitors the opportunity to meet project leaders, discover work already taking place in and around Chichester, and contribute their own ideas about what should happen next.

Between 1pm and 4.30pm, a series of informal table-top presentations and displays will give visitors the chance to talk directly to people involved in a wide range of initiatives.

The range of participants reflects the festival’s central idea: that meaningful change can emerge from collaboration between people with different skills, experiences and perspectives.

The festival will conclude with an evening panel and a series of short presentations, running from 5pm to 7pm, under the question “What did you make happen, and how?” It will explore the practical experience of getting projects off the ground, building partnerships and engaging communities.
