Changes needed to be made. It was no surprise to wake up to the news of Colin Kazim Richard’s departure last week. The dismissal came on the back of a last minute defeat to Shrewsbury Town where Reds threw away a lead to lose 3-2 in injury time. A goal from Ade Adeyemo had put us ahead in the fourth minute. But once again it was a lead we failed to hold on to and ultimately cost the gaffer and his assistant Julian Gray their jobs. Another person to walk was director of football Erdem Konya. Who after all was responsible for the appointment of Kazim-Richard’s. So with all three leaving it does feel like a fresh start and a clean slate.

Kevin Blackwell has been appointed interim manager while the search for a permanent successor takes place. Kevin has managed big clubs in the past such as Leeds and Sheffield United. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge and got off to a good start on Saturday with a point at home to Tranmere Rovers. It was a game played in horrendous conditions where in all honesty the result could have gone either way. Reds keeper keeper Vito Mannone produced a brilliant save at one end, with the Tranmere goalie producing a double save in the last minute to deny us the win. Man of the moment Dylan Morgan was on fire once again and after scoring a screamer in midweek he followed that up with a sensational volley to put Crawley ahead just after halftime. But as was the case against Shrewsbury it was a lead we failed to hold. Up next is a tough assignment at Oldham, but if we turn up with the same work rate and commitment as we showed on Saturday then we have every chance of getting something from the game. The league table looks bleak at the moment with Reds six points adrift at the bottom. But we are only eleven games into the season. Crucially with games in hand on most of the teams above us. That’s why the change of manager must be commended by the club. Because it gives us every chance of getting out of the mess we currently find ourselves in. Let’s all hope and prey that better times are just around the corner.
