Eleven youngsters from the city’s Little Pioneers Nursery visited Colten Care’s Wellington Grange to participate in some festive pumpkin decorating.

And they enjoyed a special storytelling session too, listening attentively as a team member read out an original tale about a golden pumpkin written by members of the home’s creative writing group.

There was more entertainment as the children performed a medley of songs and showed off some spontaneous freestyle dancing.

The morning ended on a sweet note with each child taking home a pumpkin cupcake baked and decorated by Wellington Grange chefs.

Resident Betty Smith said: “It took me back to when I was a nursery school teacher.”

Home Manager Hayley Geddes said: “It’s such a pleasure to welcome young visitors. Our residents really enjoy spending time with them, sharing stories and experiences and seeing their enthusiasm and energy.

“Intergenerational activities like this are so valuable. They provide residents with opportunities to reminisce, share knowledge and skills and create new memories.

“At the same time, they show children that you can develop meaningful connections with people of all ages.”
