Goring CC FC5 Midhurst & Easebourne 1

Goring CC FC welcomed third placed Midhurst & Easebourne in the West Sussex League Division 1 South.

Chances were few and far between in the early stages of the game, but Goring made the breakthrough on the half hour when Connor Pomeroy opened the scoring following a lovely through ball from Ben Rubano. Rubano made it 2-0 on 34 minutes and Todor Bankov almost added a third just before half time with a trademark free kick from 30 yards, only to be foiled by a superb save from the visiting goalkeeper.

Jacob Pippen made it 3-0 on 58 minutes when he latched on to a fine pass from Pomeroy. Midhurst reduced the arrears three minutes later and should have added a second from a penalty on 67 minutes, but an excellent save from Sam Sibthorpe preserved Goring's two goal lead. Goring scored a fourth goal after 77 minutes when Hayden Briggs set Pippen free and his pinpoint pass found Ball who smashed home from 12 yards.

Goring's defence continued to hold firm in the closing minutes with men of the match Alex Staines and Nathan Madgwick dictating things before Hodges added a fifth on 87 minutes following another fine pass from Rubano.

The 5-1 victory sees Goring remain top of the league after six games.
