HIGH STREET NEWS: It is sad to see Pierpoint Pet Supplies premises empty, after so many years of service from Lee and Andree. I know that we all wish them well in their future endeavours. It is good to see preparations for the opening of Marples Cakery where Hurstpierpoint Alterations used to be. I think I may have mentioned a few times that we are so fortunate to have so many wonderful traders, and more than a dozen places to eat and drink in the High Street, all the way from the White Horse to the Village Pizza Kitchen. It is up to every one of us to make sure that they thrive. ‘Use it or lose it’ isn’t a cliché – it is absolutely accurate.

Songs from the trenches …and the pubs, Poetry, Letters and beautiful storytelling by four incredible local actors - we hope to see you there. HURST VILLAGE CINEMA: November: Thursday 19th, 7.30 pm: DJ Ahmet (PG) – A warm coming-of-age tale set in rural North Macedonia which Mike tells us has vivid cinematography and an infectious sound track, and is both funny and moving. Sunday 22nd, 3 pm: The Friend (15) – Iris unexpectedly inherits her late mentor’s Great Dane dog, her orderly life is upended. As a meditation on loss and companionship, it’s a genuine, understated gem. Tickets Charlotte Grace and www.hurstfilms.com.
THE GRUFFALO ART ADVENTURE, NYMANS, 21st NOVEMER – 5th JANUARY: I don’t usually include events outside the local area, but this does look like great fun! Explore the garden where 12 giant Gruffalo sculptures have been painted by artists. The adventure continues in the house where the rooms are dressed for Christmas with a winter wonderland theme.
SOUTH EAST WATER UPDATE: The photos of Ardingly Reservoir are alarming, with the water level very low. The website www.southeastwater.co.uk provides advice on conserving water which we should all try to follow. For example, If you reduce your shower to 2 minutes, that saves 28 litres of water.
RECYCLING: We are doing well with this in Mid Sussex, particularly as a result of the Council’s introduction of the 1, 2, 3 waste service, in September’s Recycle Week, which resulted in a substantial increase in the amount we recycle, from 41% to 60%. Well done us, but let us do even better.
PLEASE SEND ME YOUR PROGRAMMES. Many groups and organisations send me information about their activities, but many don’t! If you are a member of a committee or group in the village that would like people to know more about what you do, please let me know and I shall be delighted to include the information.
