We live by the sea, walk along the shore, gaze across the waves, and even go out onto the water.

But we take care as we do so, being aware of currents, tides and winds.

Like the sea, God is bigger and stronger than we are, filling our view to the horizon, holding a strange attraction for us, and we must approach with care.

The prophet says that God esteems the one “who is humble and contrite in spirit” (Isaiah 66:2).

Such respect for his being and reverence for his name is also known as the ‘fear of the Lord’ (not a terror of what he will do because, in Jesus, we know he is kind).

So, to reference my own town, is Bexhill-on-Sea also Salvation-by-Sea for you?
