I announced that my summer-season reports had concluded at the end of September and that I would not report again until the 2027 season. However, Lancing joined the Indoor/Outdoor League at Worthing Indoor Bowling Club, Field Place (WIBC) a couple of years ago, and has not previously been reported on. I will begin to put that right, starting with this report

There are nine teams for Indoor /Outdoor league made up of outdoor Lawn Bowls clubs in Sussex taking part at WIBC.

Lancing play one rink each week. This is selected from players that are available.  Members making up the list are, Jayne Thomas, Cathy Galloway, Kay Beach, Alan Bailey, Paul Olliver & Sandra Dunnion.

To date three games have been played since 8th October. Thanks to Jayne Thomas for taking the lead in managing this discipline.

First game was against Norfolk A. This was very uncomfortable for L.B.C. playing against a team currently playing Short Mat bowls which is bowls played indoors on a surface which is foam backed or carpet between 40 and 45 feet long and 6 feet wide. A wooden fender at each end acting as a boundary which protects the hall from overly enthusiastic shots. The twist is that players must negotiate a small wooden block in the centre of the mat. If the bowl strikes the block or rolls off the mat, it is declared dead. As most of Lancing players have not played indoors, they found it difficult to settle, with the score 10-27 to Norfolk. LBC ending up at the bottom of the league.

From here things were a lot happier with the next game played on the 15th against Goring and winning 15-13 moving up to 6th place. This improvement continued, playing the game on 22nd winning against Steyning, 19-17, again, moving up in the league to 3rd place. Team was Jayne Thomas, Paul Oliver, Sandra Dunnion and Cathy Gallaway. Games were a credit to Jayne Thomas skipping all three games encouraging her team’s.

Next week on 29th the game is against Tarring Priory who are 2nd in the league with Shoreham in 1st Place and lancing in the frame at 3rd Place. Watch this space hopefully for L.B.C. to at least maintain this position or to improve.
