I thought this village was busy in summer, but now we are fully in autumnal mode, there’s something happening every day!

Members of the Bonfire Society met volunteers from Helping Hands to present them with a cheque for £1000, which will help them with administrative matters like insurance and phone rental and allow them to continue to serve people in the village with assistance when needed. This was from money raised in the bucket collection at the Bonfire Procession this year – with a little top-up from the Society.
Last Saturday, a large number of volunteers met in the Playing Fields to take part in the Conservation Society’s litter pick. This was very well organised, with hi-viz jackets, rubbish holders and litter grabbers. A pile of rubbish was collected, and then everyone had a nice chat about their findings over a cup of tea and a piece of cake in the church.

And over the weekend, the Community Garden shared their crop of pumpkins, to the delight of local families, who now have some carving to do!
On Sunday, everyone met again for this month’s cinema in the Village Hall.
This week’s activities start with the Pop-Up Pub in the Village Hall on Saturday 5-9pm. Good, local beer from The Waterworks, a range of other drinks and very good company.
St Mary’s Church is having some repair work done to the Nave, and so will be closed during the week as a safety precaution. However, all services will be held as usual, please enter through the large door to the Frewen Chapel. The services will be held in the Chancel. Wheelchair and pushchair access will be possible as usual, just let someone know to open the North door.

The Budgerigar Society meets in the Jenkins Room at 7.30pm on Monday. This is a lovely group of enthusiasts, who would welcome new faces.
The Historical and Literary Society meet on Tuesday to hear Pat Agar speak on the life and literary works of local author Sheila Kaye Smith, who lived at Little Doucegrove. Alongside her novels, she wrote a valuable guidebook to the Weald. Visitors are welcome for a small charge, or, as it’s only the second talk of the season, joining would be a good idea as you will be able to enjoy some very interesting talks lined up. Just speak to someone at the door.
Over 60s meet on Tuesday afternoon in the Village Hall and this week will enjoy hearing from Dave Booker who will present a Travelogue with music. All welcome from 2pm.
The Seniors’ Club meets in the Village Hall each Thursday morning for chat, a home-cooked meal and some form of entertainment. New members are always welcome, so contact Denise – 07858 145155 – if you know someone who would enjoy a social day out. 10.30am to 2pm. Lifts can be arranged.
The Library is open 2-4pm on Thursdays and Saturdays and the Nat West mobile bank calls 2.45-3.30pm on Thursdays, in the Village Hall car park.
Next Friday is the monthly Village Hall Coffee Morning 10-12. It’s the place to find out what’s happening, who’s doing what – and enjoy good coffee and homemade cake.
And, just in case you haven’t heard – the Panto is back! This time it’s Cinderella –tickets are on sale at Jempsons or Eventbrite, but don’t delay – they’re already going fast!
