Nestled on the farm between Lewes and Brighton, the court has been created inside a converted agricultural grainstore, giving the traditional farm building a new use, while offering players the chance to enjoy padel whatever the weather.

Padel is a fast-paced, sociable racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash. Usually played in doubles, it is easy to pick up for beginners while offering plenty of challenge for more experienced players. Its accessibility and social nature have helped fuel a huge surge in popularity across the UK and beyond.

The team behind Padel at Housedean hope to bring that same welcoming spirit to the local area, creating a place where friends, families, colleagues and newcomers to the sport can get together and play.

The indoor court features a distinctive terracotta-coloured playing surface, with the wider space designed to offer a relaxed, informal atmosphere. Rackets are available to borrow for those who want to give the sport a try without having to invest in their own equipment.

Court bookings will be available through the Playtomic app. As well as individual bookings, they plan to build a local playing community, with social sessions and opportunities for people to meet other players.

The padel court is part of a wider effort to diversify the traditional South Downs mixed farm, where there is already a campsite, a gym and a holiday cottage.

Owners Nick and Lydia Taylor said “ We’re really excited to be bringing padel to Housedean Farm. We wanted to create something a little different that gives people in the local area a new way to get active, have fun and experience this great sport. padel is such a sociable sport, and you don’t need to be an experienced player to enjoy it. We’re looking forward to welcoming people to the court and building a great new local padel community.
