Dr Kieran Mullan, MP for Bexhill, Battle, and the villages, has backed calls for greater support for small abattoirs, highlighting their importance to local farmers, consumers and animal welfare.

Kieran has added his name to a letter coordinated by the Sustainable Food Trust calling for action to support the future of small abattoirs across the country.
Small abattoirs play an important role in supporting local farming and food production. They allow farmers to process livestock closer to home, reducing journey times for animals and helping to maintain local food supply chains.
Access to local abattoirs is particularly important for smaller farms, which can face additional costs and practical difficulties when animals have to travel longer distances for slaughter.
Kieran has been working with local farmers and organisations in East Sussex to better understand the challenges facing the sector and explore potential solutions.
Dr Kieran Mullan MP said:
"Farming is a hugely important part of our local economy, and we need to make sure our farmers have the facilities they need.
"Small abattoirs are important for local farmers, but also for animal welfare. Having facilities closer to farms means animals don't have to travel such long distances, and it helps people who want to buy locally produced meat.
"I've been speaking to local farmers and organisations about the challenges they face, and I'm pleased to support this letter. I'll continue working with those involved locally and raising this issue in Parliament."
Dr Mullan will continue engaging with local farmers, food partnerships and other organisations working to protect access to local abattoir services.
