CHARITY CALENDARS AT RINGMER PET STORE
Ringmer Pet Store will soon be selling a calendar for 2027 packed with pictures of local pets. They will sell for £9.50 per calendar and ALL monies will go directly to feeding desperate animals in Ukraine.
The Pet Store, Ringmer works with K9 Rescue Ukraine who have been working since February 2022 to send money, supplies and food to animals on the front lines of the Russian war of aggression. Buying a calendar is a great way to support the people and animals of Ukraine.
They will be on sale from early November so make sure you grab yours before they sell out.
RINGMER WI
Last month, 68 of us, including visitors from Firle and Bedingham and Chidingly, were treated to an amusing talk by Suzanne Boulter entitled ‘From Grass Skirts to Saris’ showing us the clothes and textiles she discovered in each place. From Papua New Guinea to Vanuatu, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Tanzania, Suzanne showed us the grass skirt she wore in PNG, the palm leaf mats, grass string bags for collecting the harvest but also for carrying their babies and mulberry tree rugs. The people of Vanuatu used the same natural flora but also colourful loose fitting dresses made of polycotton and some cashmere covers. Zimbabwe used corn starch and water to create beautiful designs and even potato printing! They made use of cotton and a method called kente which involved hand weaving narrow strips of silk and cotton which were then sewn together. Bangladesh used a lot of muslin for their saris and Suzanne showed us the clothes she and her husband were expected to wear. In Tanzania she made a quilt which was inspired by her travels and collection of textiles. Our next meeting is on 3 November, the Secret Life of the Honeybee, all are welcome.
