Naim Rouane rotated his squad for this RUR cup tie and introduced four youth team players on the bench. Charlie Burton, Luke Harrison, Teddy Wood, Bailey Moyo, Stan Berry and Callum Chesworth were rested while Jamie Smith, Dan Pearse and James Pearse were still out through illness and injury. Ringmer also had some players out. Monty Watson-deputised in goal and new signing Callum Kilkenny made his home debut, moving to right back. Pat Gibbs made his first start after long term injury and Hayden Skerry was given a chance to get more valuable minutes.

Right from the kick off the visitors set up in a low block concentrating on filling the holes that Roffey wanted to play through. They kept 9 men behind the ball and kept Roffey at arms length in the early stages. As the game progressed, the Boars started to pass their way through in the last third but found Will Moger in the Ringmer goal in excellent form. However, he could do nothing on fifteen minutes when Jordan Mase wriggled past four defenders in the box and blasted the ball into the roof of the net. Moger continued to make several good blocks and catches to keep his side in the game, whilst Watson-Price was playing more or less as a sweeper for the Boars. However half time arrived with no further score.

It only took five minutes of the second half to extend the lead as Mase’s slide rule pass put Byron Napper clear in the box and he finished low into the far corner. Five minutes later Tom Caplin picked the ball up thirty yards out, strode forward and hit a shot that dipped in front of Moger and just inside the post. A minute later Kilkenny broke forward and played a diagonal ball to Luca Allen coming in off the opposite wing. Allen hit an early shot inside the far post to make the score 4-0. After sixty-three minutes Charlie Gibson was found just inside the area centrally, and he opened his body up and planted the ball inside the left hand post giving Moger no chance.

Rouane started to introduce his subs and Evan Hoarty robbed a defender on the edge of the box and smashed the ball past Moger. James Dodd and AJ Kiamtia-Rowsell came on for their debuts and were joined shortly after by George Horner and Adam Mountford as the Boars continued to dominate. The scoring was completed when Max Mesquita converted the rebound after Hoarty’s shot had hit the post.

So, a good evening’s work for the Boars with minutes for players, plenty of goals and four youth team players fitting in to the Boars passing style almost seamlessly in a game that was an ideal start to their senior education. There is no game this Saturday but on Tuesday Roffey host East Grinstead at the Fusion Aviation Stadium in what is a massive top end of the table clash. The Boars will hope that Hornets fans will also come along to watch what should be a great game.

Roffey: Watson-Price, Kilkenny, Gibson(Mountford), Napper, Meeres(Dodd), Gibbs, Caplin(Hoarty), Mase(Kiamtia-Rowsell), Skerry(Horner), Mesquita, Allen.
