Ten homes will be for affordable rent, including, five one-bedroom flats, two one-bedroom maisonettes, two two-bedroom houses and one three-bedroom house.

There are also two two-bedroom houses sold through Shared Ownership – a part-buy, part-rent scheme designed to help residents get on the property ladder who cannot afford to buy a home outright.

A recent bricklaying ceremony took place at the housing development which brought together project partners for a guided tour to see progress first-hand, and to take part in the celebrations by laying bricks in the homes currently under construction.

Councillor Daniel Manvell, Alliance for Wealden (Labour Party) and lead councillor for Housing, Benefits and Revenues, said, “Coopers Green builds on the success of Coronation Place and demonstrates our continued commitment to delivering high-quality, energy-efficient homes across Wealden.

“This work we do of providing affordable housing to our residents is part of a four-year programme to build and purchase approximately 170 new affordable council homes and the Coopers Green development will help the council towards that goal.

“We have focused on building smaller one-and two-bedroom properties, as we know these are in high demand and will help meet the needs of residents. Alongside this investment, we have worked closely with developers, housing associations and other partners to increase the supply of affordable housing across Wealden.

“Last year, 506 new affordable homes were built in the district – this means that 40% of all new homes delivered were affordable. This is significant progress and I would like to thank the project teams for their hard work in delivering the affordable housing for Wealden residents.”

The development is expected to be completed in 2027.
