Wildlife rescuers from Help and Advice for Worthing Wildlife (HAWW), a group that rescues injured, wild animals across Worthing, are joining forces with West Sussex Wildlife Protection, the registered charity that covers the western part of the county.

The Worthing group began as a small group of local volunteers in 2021 working alongside Sompting Wildlife Rescue and has grown steadily as more residents have turned to it for help with injured hedgehogs, foxes, birds and other wildlife.
In the past year the group attended around 200 rescues, whilst also providing in addition advice and guidance to the public with wildlife care.
West Sussex Wildlife Protection (charity no. 1212713) rescues and rehabilitates native wildlife and has experience with foxes, deer, badgers, swans and trapped birds. It attended more than 600 call-outs in 2025. Animals are treated by a vet wherever possible, then released or passed to a local wildlife sanctuary.
Nerys Deutsch, a volunteer rescue coordinator and founder of the Worthing group, said: "We've been overwhelmed by the support from local people, and the number of callouts has grown every year. Joining West Sussex Wildlife Protection means more trained volunteers, better equipment and a stronger network across the county, while the same familiar faces keep helping wildlife in Worthing."
Simon Wild at West Sussex Wildlife Protection said: “West Sussex Wildlife Protection has been running for over 30 years but only registered formally as a charity for wildlife rescue in 2025. So, we are now thrilled to be able to expand our volunteer base and cover a much larger part of West Sussex”
From the 21st of October 2026, members of the public who find wildlife in difficulty in the Worthing area should call 07359 858650
