Have the last laugh of the year at Danny’s Comedy Club

Taking stock of his Club’s first year of business, owner Daniel Kington said: “When we started the whole Comedy Club thing at the end of last year, I promised myself a pat on the back and a slice of cheesecake if we actually got it off the ground and then made it as far as Christmas. I’m as amazed as I am proud to say that with my wonderful team and the fantastic support of the Birch Hotel and most of all from the people of Haywards Heath and beyond, we’ve actually done it.”

Danny has decided to take a break in December and so the club’s last comedy show of 2013 will be on Friday, November 29, at The Birch Hotel, Haywards Heath.

This month’s singer will be announced shortly, as well as a whole new line up of acts ready and waiting for the 2014 season, all set to open at the Birch Hotel on January 31.

Meanwhile, the burgeoning waiting list of highly talented comedians and singers eager to perform at Danny’s Comedy Club continues to grow and this month’s line-up billed for Friday, November 29 is no exception.

Highly recommended by other Club owners, “performance poet and light entertainer” Malcolm Head will be headlining this month’s show. Having won numerous awards, he supported celebrity comedian Paul Foot on national tours in 2011 and 2012, and has performed at most of the nation’s top comedy venues. Malcolm is the creation of writer Jack Stratten, who has written sketches for BBC radio shows including BBC7’s Newsjack and has written for singer Geri Halliwell.

November also welcomes the phenomenally talented comedian, musician, writer and broadcaster Rosie Wilby. As a comedian, she has performed at Sydney Mardi Gras, The Comedy Store, Latitude Festival and on Radio 4. She first tried stand-up comedy in 2004 after encouragement from fans at music gigs who enjoyed her between song banter. Her CV now reads like a who’s who of the country’s top comedy venues. She also comperes and curates Femmes by the Thames at Royal Vauxhall Tavern and has appeared on Radio 4’s Loose Ends. Time Out called her “Excellent and a bit posh,” while the Metro recently described her as “One of London’s doyennes of thoughtful, intimate, and warmly entertaining comedy.”

A highly talented stand-up, radio presenter, comedy writer and reformed northerner, Steve N Allen has lots to says and finds a nice way to say it. With a total sell-out show at the Edinburgh Fringe, he has performed at many of the UK’s best Clubs, including the Comedy Store and the Leicester Square Theatre.

An Absurdist one liner with punch lines that come from every direction, lovable Tommy Barnes was a semi-finalist in So You Think You’re Funny in 2011 and a semi-finalist in the Golden Jester Comedy Competition 2012.

Described by the Metro as having “...enough funny stories to fill a warehouse,” Danny Hurst is probably the only orthodox Jewish, bisexual, left-handed, vegetarian Manchester City fan on the comedy circuit. A highly experienced and talented performer of comedy, performance art, theatre, circus and telesales, he toured with the top ten band Dodgy in 1996 and has performed all over the UK, as well as recent tours of Japan and the South of France, Amsterdam and Barcelona.

In just eighteen months Sarah Mills has performed all over the UK and in the US, racking up 150 gigs and reaching the semi-finals of Funny Women in 2012. Combining quirky tunes with sharp gags, Sarah is resident comedian at Studio 58 in London and is a regular at other top comedy venues in the capital. She is also a TV comedy producer, working for ITV and STV.

A consummate performer who comes highly recommended, Stu Turner blends comedy and magic with absolute nonsense. His offbeat act is intelligent, sometimes surreal... but always baffling and highly entertaining. No cheesy ladies in sparkly leotards, no cute animals, and certainly no shiny bow ties.

Doors open at 7.30pm with curtain up at 8.30pm.

The Club features comfortable, cabaret-style seating, a very reasonably priced bar, good food and ample, free parking onsite. Admission is £5 (£4 concessions) on the door with tickets also available in advance at the Hotel reception.
