Jane was appointed to the role on Sunday (October 18), becoming chairman of the largest official body of town criers in the world.

Sharing the news in a Facebook post on Monday (October 19), the town crier said she was “feeling very proud” of her new position.

The appointment marks a significant milestone for Jane, who has spent almost a decade representing Bognor Regis. She has helped keep a centuries-old tradition alive while promoting the town at local and national events.

The Mayor of Bognor Regis, Councillor Paul Ralph, said the town council was proud of Jane’s achievements and welcomed her appointment.

“The Town Council are incredibly proud of Jane and her many achievements over her nearly ten years in the role. She’s a wonderful advocate for Bognor Regis, both locally and nationally, and is so well deserving of being appointed the first Lady Chairman of the Guild.

“We are certain she will do a fantastic job in this new position, continuing the wave the flag for Bognor Regis and Town Criers everywhere, ensuring the tradition of the role continues to go from strength to strength.”
