Sompting Lodge continues longstanding support for Durrington Infant and Junior School

Sompting Lodge has reaffirmed its commitment to community support through its continued partnership with Durrington Infant and Junior School in Worthing — a relationship that has grown steadily over many years.
Members of the Lodge, along with their partners, have regularly visited the school to see first-hand how their donations have been put to use. One such visit even led to an unexpected development: Freda Ashley, wife of Lodge member Bob Ashley, was invited to join the school’s Board of Governors after showing a keen interest in the school’s needs and activities.
The Lodge’s contributions over the years have supported a wide range of projects, including the school’s food bank, its developing orchard, and several initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of pupils and families.
Among the most appreciated additions, however, is the school’s sensory room — a calming, soft, and soothing environment designed for children who benefit from a few minutes of quiet time during the school day. The room provides a much-needed space for relaxation, emotional regulation, and reassurance, particularly for students who may find busy classrooms overwhelming.
Brother Craig Mackay, who has volunteered at the school for many years, said the sensory room stands out as one of the Lodge’s most meaningful contributions. “It is a simple space, but it makes a remarkable difference,” he explained. “The children who use it come out calmer, more settled, and better able to enjoy and participate in the rest of their day.”
Members of Sompting Lodge say they are proud to continue supporting Durrington Infant and Junior School and look forward to future projects that will benefit local children and families.
