The Sussex town is ninth in Travelodge’s list behind Brighton and Cornwall, which is top.

These findings have been revealed in the autumn segment of the 2022 Travelodge Travel Index. The hotel chain, which operates 581 hotels across the UK, surveyed 2,000 British families to find out their October half term travel plans.

A Travelodge spokesperson said: “British parents are planning to spend £1.3 billion on a staycation break to keep their children entertained over October half term break and Eastbourne is one of their top holiday destinations.”

The hotel chain explained that 54 per cent of parents were planning a family holiday for the half term.

The spokesperson added: “In ninth place in the autumn staycation charts is Eastbourne - officially the UK’s sunniest place. Eastbourne is famous for Europe’s largest man-made marina Sovereign Harbour, the 19th century Eastbourne Pier, and the stunning views from Beachy Head make it one of the most popular holiday destinations.”

More than a fifth (21 per cent) of parents reported that taking their children away during the October half term holidays will be cheaper than paying for the energy bills if they stayed at home, according to Travelodge.
