Bexhill College leavers' celebration

BEXHILL College held its first ever presentation evening at the De La Warr Pavilion to honour the students who left in summer 2010.

Apart from the enjoyment of the ceremony, youngsters welcomed the opportunity to catch up with the friends and former teachers they had not seen for months.

The night started with a speech by principal Karen Hucker, who congratulated students on their achievements and triumphs and wished them well on their future paths.

The principal then introduced comedian Gerry K, keynote speaker of the evening.

Gerry proved the ideal candidate to deliver inspiration, having launched into stand-up because of a bet with a friend.

He then became one of the leading performers on the Comedy Club circuit having won various awards including the Comedy Clubs prestigious King Gong, as well as Best Newcomer.

However Gerry wasn’t the only one to inject laughter into the evening, as some of the college’s performing arts students put on four dazzling performances throughout the event.

These were a hilarious drag act by Josh Noon and a smooth Cry Me a River performance by Billie Thompson, with echoes of a young Michael Buble, plus a witty spoof Diversity routine, and an flawless Bollywood dance from the first and second year Bexhill College students, all of which received enthusiastic applause.

The music for the evening was provided by up-and-coming band The Seize.

A joyful and memorable time was had by all, and the success of the evening has encouraged the college to host a yearly event to celebrate student successes in the future.
