Bognor Rocks hope club will be used all year round

The Rocks hope the name they have chosen for their new clubhouse will encourage people to use it all year round.

The new social centre will be called Seasons '“ a name the club hopes reflects a football theme while also appealing to a much wider audience.

As reported in the Observer a fortnight ago, the clubhouse will get a grand opening on Saturday, November 28, when guests including Bognor mayor Eileen Anderson and ex-Pompey, QPR and England winger Dave Thomas have been invited.

It will be a hub for Rocks fans on matchdays, but the club aim to boost their ailing budget by opening it up for use by the community all year round, including for parties and wedding receptions.

Rocks spokesman Roger Nash said: "We wanted a name that would appeal to as wide a range of people as possible, as well as our regular supporters.

"We carried out a lot of research and what came back was that Seasons had a nice feel about it and conjured up images which reflect different highlights through the year, as well as the important link with football and the football season.

"The football club want Seasons to be a vibrant part of the community, providing facilities second to none which will attract football and non-football fans alike."

He added: "The new facility has been planned and built to cater for a multitude of different uses, and we want this superb new centre to be open as much as possible.

"For example by day, people can come and improve their skills and companies can hire it to use for training and meetings.

"Very importantly, Seasons will be a great venue for live entertainment, concerts plus weddings and special celebrations all with high-quality catering in friendly and welcoming surroundings."

In conjunction with the Observer, the club ran a naming competition which has been won by Stephen Andrews of Bognor.

Although Stephen did not come up with the name Seasons, his suggestion of The Rocks Revival will be used over the next few weeks and months as the name for a major new push to bring in sustainable and long-term new funding to the club.

Stephen will be invited to the official opening of Seasons and wins a year's free entry to league games at Nyewood Lane.
