As 5th November approaches, towns and villages across the area are building their bonfires, ready to mark Guy Fawkes Night.

Cocking kicks off the celebrations on Friday, 30 October, with burgers and bangers served from 6pm before the fireworks begin at 7pm. Open to villagers and guests, the event is being held at the village hall.
Hot on its heels is Stedham, which will stage its annual display on 31 October at the Pavilion. Gates open at 6pm and the fireworks begin at 7.30pm. There will also be a bar and barbecue.
The following evening, Duncton promises a "cosy village evening of bonfire, fireworks and food" at the village hall. The bonfire will be lit at 6.45pm, with fireworks from 7.15pm.
Then, on Friday, 6 November, Midhurst Rother College opens its gates at 5.30pm for its annual fireworks party. The display begins at 7pm, and tickets cost £9 for adults and £5 for children.
The next evening, it is Petworth's turn. The annual Hampers Green procession and bonfire offers free entry and plenty of food. The fireworks display begins at 7pm, and organisers are asking people to bring burnable materials, such as hedge trimmings and old pallets, to the green by 10am on Saturday, 31 October.
Many surrounding villages are also holding events on 7 November. Milland's popular fireworks party begins at 6pm on the recreation ground. The family-friendly event features a range of food and drink stalls, including a hog roast, soup and mulled wine, while Milland Stores will be serving hot dogs. Tickets are available from the stores or The Rising Sun.
Also taking place on 7 November is the Lodsworth Bonfire and Fireworks Night. Entries for the Guy Fawkes competition can be dropped off at the recreation ground from 5pm, before the winning effigy is paraded to the bonfire at 6pm. Organisers promise "lots of parking, no big crowds, just family-friendly fire and fireworks".
Across the valley, Heyshott will begin its traditional evening of celebrations with a torchlit procession at 7pm. Organisers are reminding visitors that the event is cash only.
