Sink hole leads to emergency closure of Crawley road

An emergency road closure has been put in place in Crawley following the discovery of a sinkhole.

Three Bridges Road is shut both way between Bramley Close and Eastwood. Drivers are being warned that the road may be closed ‘for some time.’

Bus company Metrobus says that routes 281 and 291 are unable to serve Artel Croft, Rowan Close and Jubilee Walk in both directions.

A spokesperson for West Sussex County Council said: “Three Bridges Road was closed in both directions on Tuesday (April 28) after a sinkhole appeared in the road surface.

“Our initial assessment suggests the issue may be linked to a defective water pipe.

“Thames Water is carrying out further investigations and we are working closely with them to make sure repairs are carried out so the road can be reopened as quickly as possible.”
