A BIT OF A RACEHORSE: At Christmas, my son, bought my husband a tiny wee share in a racehorse. He was over the moon, and a picture of this horse stands next to those of the grandchildren. He follows his progress, and last weekend, we went all the way to Somerset get a look at his horse. We stayed overnight and rose early, and I put on my make-up, at some unearthly hour [although I'm certain the horse couldn't have cared less.] I am not in the least familiar with horses, and know nothing about them at all, but when they brought this horse out, I have to say, I felt almost maternal. Apparently, he'd just had his flu jab. I've never spoken to a horse before, but 'Have you had your flu jab, sweetheart, and did it hurt, 'I asked him [he did something with his nostrils]. I'm not sure which bit we actually own [probably best not to ask] Knowing our luck, it's probably the turkey equivalent of the Parson's nose! He'd got a touch of ringworm too [I felt like rushing to '˜Boots' for something anti-fungal]. Anyway, he is now in our thoughts. I may just parcel him up some hoof-shaped bed socks and a bag of sugar lumps. Maybe not though, there were other people who owned bits of him, and they may see it as some kind of nepotism. I just hope they remember to apply his cream, poor little man.

WELL DONE THE BRING AND BUY SALE: The Coffee morning/Bring and Buy Sale on 28th January, in Iden village hall, made £1,800, to help dementia sufferers and their carers. Well done Sue White and Jenny Sperring, and all those who donated, and helped towards such a worthwhile cause.

TONIGHT IN IDEN VILLAGE HALL: The Iden and District Natural History, are having a lecture tonight, in Iden village hall, at 7.30pm, entitled ‘Friend or Foe, The Herring Gull’, by Richard Thompson. These lectures are very informative for nature-lovers. Visitors pay £3.

BINGO: There will be Bingo in Iden village hall, on February 16th. Doors open at 2pm, eyes down at 2.30. Tea and biscuits will be served. Bingo will continue fortnightly, on a Thursday.

KNIT AND NATTER: There will be a Knit and Natter session in Iden village hall, on Tuesday 14th February, from 2-4pm, at a cost of £2.50. Any type of knitting or handy work can be done amongst friends, as no doubt, the ‘natter’ is as important as the handy craft !

A SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION: There will be a Service Of Holy Communion, in Iden Parish Church, at 9.30 am on Sunday.

YOGA IN THE ‘OLD HALL’: There is a Yoga session every Friday morning in ‘The Old Hall’, [by the Church], in Iden, from 9.30-10.30am, at a cost of £6 per session. If anyone would like to join, please email [[email protected]] It’s a healthy option, in a nice, friendly atmosphere.

LEAVING OFF THE MARIGOLD’S: I haven’t done more than a lick of necessary housework since this cold snap descended upon us. I look into rooms and just close the door. Lethargy has set in big time, but soon [please God], we will wake up to bright sunshine, and out will come the Marigold’s, and a feeling of brightness will transform us all into those two ladies who show us how to clean on tele [Kim and Aggie] I hope to goodness that neither of them see my oven in it’s present state! Soon though, I will take this house by storm. [I may even wear a pinny, and one of those war-time headscarves that knot on the top., like Hilda Ogden]. They do say that if you dress the part, in any kind of uniform, that you begin to live the part [Maybe I’ll go to Iden Stores in slippers, and rolled down stockings.] I’m sure they won’t mind a bit, as long as I spend a fortune on ‘Jif’!
