Jail for jewel shop robbery

Paul John Evans, of Barnett's Field, Westergate, was sentenced to five years in prison at Chichester Crown Court today (January 28), having pleaded guilty to robbery and theft in relation to a robbery at Parker and Dean's Jewellers, The Street, Rustington, on June 12 2007.

Rings valued at 21,000 were stolen during the robbery. Evans also asked for the court to take into consideration a theft at Frost Bros jewellers in Worthing on April 13 2007, when a ring valued at 5500 was stolen.

DC Alex Campbell, Arun District CID, said: "This type of crime was a shock to the local community as it is so rare. I hope this goes some way to reassuring the public that Sussex Police will fully investigate all serious crimes and bring offenders to justice.

"We are pleased with the sentence awarded by the court today and we hope that this is a deterrent to others involved in this type of crime and shows that they will be brought to justice."
