‘An unimaginable loss’ – fundraiser set up for the family of Eastbourne pastor Robert Guanco, who was killed at a Christian festival, tops £54k
An Eastbourne man killed at a Christian festival on Friday has been named by his church as Robert Guanco.
The 41-year-old was a pastor at Jesus the Living Water Church.

A fundraiser for his family has been set up – with donations of more than £54k already pouring in.
In a statement on the Gofundmepage, Bishop Norman Ponce, writes: “It is with deeply broken hearts that we come together to support the family of our beloved brother, friend, and pastor, Robert Earl Guanco, who tragically lost his life during the Big Church Festival 2026 in West Sussex.
“What was meant to be a time of worship, fellowship, and celebration became an unimaginable tragedy. On 28 August 2026, a large sign at the festival fell, resulting in several people being injured and, tragically, claiming the life of our beloved Pastor Robert.
“In behalf of Jesus the Living Water World Wide Church - UK, Pastor Robert was more than a pastor. He was a beloved son, cherished brother, loving husband. He was also a good friend, mentor, and a blessing to so many people whose lives he touched.
“His life reflected humility, faith, love, compassion, and service. Through his ministry, kindness, prayers, and encouragement, he touched many lives. His passing is deeply felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
“Today, his family — his wife, daughter, parents, siblings, and loved ones — are facing an unimaginable loss. Alongside the deep grief of losing a husband, father, son, and brother, they are also facing the practical and financial challenges that come with such an unexpected tragedy.
“We are kindly asking everyone to come together and support his family during this incredibly difficult season.
“Every donation, no matter how large or small, will make a meaningful difference. Your generosity will help ease some of the financial burden and allow the family to focus on grieving, healing, and supporting one another through the days ahead.”
Sussex Police said they were called to the Big Church Festival at Wiston Park, near Steyning in West Sussex, at about 3.38pm on Friday.
