Carolyn Cook supports 40 residents in her role as activities co-ordinator and lifestyles lead at Cavell House care home, in Middle Road.

Carolyn said: “I am making very good progress and have already walked around 20 miles. My aim for this challenge is to involve the residents and encourage them to walk with me.

“We have a variety of care needs and many of our residents suffer from dementia. It’s so lovely to have their support and not only are they are helping raise vital funds for Dementia UK but they are also having the chance to get active and get some fresh air.
“Dementia sufferer Robert walked half a mile around the home and grounds with me. This was a fantastic achievement for him. He enjoyed getting out into our garden and we made sure we had lots of rest stops and refreshments halfway through.
“Another resident, Rose, who also has dementia, joined us for a quarter of a mile with her walking frame. She was so determined and again a great achievement. I have been talking to other residents to see who would like to join me.”
Walks outside the home have included Mill Hill, the River Adur, Sullington Warren, Chanctonbury Ring and Buckingham Park.
The money raised by Carolyn will go to specialist nursing charity Dementia UK to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. Its Admiral Nurses helping families in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support.
