Improvement works in Eastbourne town centre road completed
East Sussex Highways has completed carriageway improvement works in Cornfield Road in Eastbourne town centre.
The improvements included new granite setts, kerbing, gully improvements, tactile paving replacements and paving block repairs.
Cornfield Road was partially closed for three weeks in July and August to allow repairs to a ‘ramp’ caused by the road sinking over time.
A spokesperson for East Sussex Highways said: “A key aim of the scheme was to improve the ramp profile, creating a smoother gradient that allows buses to pass through safely and prevent damage.

“The works were completed ahead of the Eastbourne Airshow and were made possible through close collaboration with local bus companies, helping to minimise disruption while keeping people moving.”
East Sussex Highways confirmed the final road marking refreshments will take place on Tuesday, September 29 between 1am and 6am, but they are expected to cause ‘little to no disruption for road users’.
