New traffic 'nightmare' in South Downs village - days after it was left a 'ghost town'

Residents in a South Downs village are again facing a traffic ‘nightmare’ – just days after a road closure was blamed for leaving the area ‘like a ghost town.’

Traffic lights have been installed on the A283 at Manley’s Hill near Meadowside because of a water leak.

Cars have been queueing in the area and other roads – Browns Lane and Church Street – are reported to being used as ‘rat runs’ by drivers.

It is the second time recently that the village has faced traffic chaos. It was brought to a virtual standstill and its centre deserted just a few days ago when the A283 was closed while workmen again worked to repair a water leak.

Now villagers have taken to social media at the latest chaos, described by one as ‘a nightmare.’

Another asked: “Is there ever a whole uninterrupted week where we don’t have any roads being dug up in Storrington?”
