Police involved as youth's attack wildlife in Bexhill park
Police have responded to a number of complaints about youths targeting birds and wildlife in Egerton Park with catapults.
A Rother Police spokesperson said: “After being made aware by Rother District Council Parks staff, we are asking for the public's help following reports of young people using catapults in Egerton Park. There are concerns that wildlife may have been targeted and some animals injured. “Neighbourhood officers have increased daytime and evening patrols in and around the park and will continue to work with partners to address the issue. We take reports of animal harm seriously and will investigate any information provided to us. “If you witness anyone using a catapult to target wildlife, or have information about incidents in the park, please report it to us at the time so that officers can attend and take appropriate action. “Carrying a catapult in public without lawful authority or reasonable excuse may be considered an offence in certain circumstances. It is illegal to use a catapult to injure, kill or cause unnecessary suffering to wildlife or animals under wildlife and animal welfare legislation. “By reporting incidents promptly, you can help us protect the wildlife that makes Egerton Park such an important community space. Report online or call 101. In an emergency, always call 999.”

Earlier this year, police escorted a family of ducks who were re-locating from Egerton Park and walking down a busy road.
