Hastings school teachers call off strike action over 'restructuring plans'
Teachers at a Hastings school have suspended their strike action in a dispute over 'restructuring plans', a union said.
Members of the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) at Ark Alexandra walked out on Tuesday (July 7).
The strike action was set to last three days but it was suspended on Wednesday (July 8) as a ‘gesture of goodwill to allow for meaningful negotiations to take place’, a NASUWT spokesperson said.
Following negotiations the union said strike action on Thursday (July 9) was withdrawn as ‘positive progress was made towards addressing the issues under dispute’.

The spokesperson said: “There is currently no further strike action scheduled at the school.”
On Tuesday NASUWT said the restructuring plans at Ark Alexandra are due to take effect from September and added it believed the plans would have a 'significantly detrimental impact on teachers’ workloads'.
An Ark Alexandra spokesperson said: “We welcome the decision by NASUWT to call off strike action. We remain committed to working constructively with staff and trade union representatives to resolve any outstanding issues.”
Ark Alexandra has two campuses, the William Parker campus in Park Avenue, and the Helenswood campus, located on The Ridge.
