Worthing students’ creativity impresses at pop-up Christmas shop

A Worthing college's pop-up Christmas shop has raised just under £500, with half going to West Sussex Mind.

CAY College, an independent alternative provision school, hosted a pop-up Christmas shop at Colonnade House to showcase the students' work and raise money for charity.

The 'festive frenzy' featured handmade, bespoke Christmas souvenirs, including Christmas decorations made from recycled materials and wooden trees that were built in carpentry lessons.

Sarah Clements, transition and pastoral lead, said: "The students had a very productive week. They staffed the shop and had many positive interactions with the public.

"The shop raised £488 in total and we will be donating 50 per cent to West Sussex Mind, as chosen by our students. The remaining money will go towards kitting out our new kitchen, which students will use to learn to cook."

Visitors told students they were impressed by what they had achieved, especially being so creative with recycled materials.

Raphi, one of the students, said: "It was nice when my mum came into the shop and bought something."

CAY College is based at Aztex House, Ivy Arch Road, Worthing. It offers a diverse range of courses tailored to meet the needs of modern learners.
