Council approves Crowborough homes

A developer has secured ‘permission in principle’ for a small-scale housing development in Crowborough.

In a decision issued last Monday (October 26), Wealden District Council has approved plans to build between three and six homes on land to the north of Tubwell Lane — part of what is known as the Cherry Trees site.

The proposals, from applicant Jonathan Latham, come in the form of a Permission in Principle (PIP) application.

Such applications follow a two-stage process, with this first part limited to location, land use and the amount of development. All three of these elements were considered to be acceptable by planning officers.

All other matters — such as the design and precise number of dwellings — would need to come forward as part of a subsequent application, known as the Technical Details (TD) stage.

The proposal site forms part of a wider parcel of land, which had formerly been used as a horticultural nursery.

Other development proposals have also been approved on this wider parcel, including a five-unit scheme which is currently being built out in a linear pattern along the lane to the west of Cherry Trees.

An adjacent site to the west has planning permission for 26 dwellings and is also currently under construction.
