Bognor Regis in Bloom 'Spring Clean' takes place on 28th March

Following last week’s article in which I advised of some of the upcoming Bognor Regis in Bloom Working Group initiatives for 2026, I have another date for your diaries… the Keep Britain Tidy campaign ‘The Great British Spring Clean’ is back, and as usual, the In Bloom Working Group would love to have your help to tidy up our Town!

Since 2016, across the country, millions of people have pledged to pick over 4.5 million bags of litter, making this the nation’s largest mass-action environmental campaign. Keeping our streets litter-free builds community pride, improves cleanliness and protects the environment. The Bognor Regis in Bloom Working Group continues to support clean-up efforts across the Town, encouraging local #LitterHeroes to get involved, and this year for the first time, is supported by The Wombles Community Charity.

A community litter pick will therefore be taking place on Saturday 28th March. Participants are asked to meet outside Howards Café, located in the Arcade in the Town Centre, at 10.30am. Everyone is welcome to join, whether you’re a regular volunteer or taking part for the first time, all you need is your enthusiasm and a bit of spare time! Equipment will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you have it.

Some of you may have seen that our Bognor Regis Town Crier, Jane, has recently made headlines, starring in an Innocent Drinks social media campaign, alongside fellow Town Criers and well-known personality and tv star ‘Big Zuu’. As always, we are very proud of Jane’s achievements, and this latest venture encouraging the public to start their day with fruit and veg, which has been covered in national press, is another fine example of the fantastic ambassador she is for our Town.

As always, Jane will be a prominent figure in attendance at our summer of events here in Bognor Regis. She will also be hosting our next Town Crier Competition, taking place at the seafront bandstand on Saturday 20th June, to coincide with our Town’s Armed Forces Day commemorations. Town Crier’s from across the country (and overseas), will be taking to ‘Sunniest Bognor Regis’ to compete in two rounds of cries, for some coveted trophies, with a prize also going to the ‘Best Dressed Crier’. This biennial event was very successful in 2024, and we hope to have plenty of public support, cheering on the magnificent Criers who will be partaking. You can find details of this and our other events taking place this year, in our Newsletter, which is currently being delivered across the wards of Bognor Regis. The full version of the Newsletter can also be found on our website, containing even more on the work of your Town Council and more!

Contained within the Newsletter is information on how you can access the public consultation, inviting residents’ views on whether the Town Council should consider acquiring Bognor Regis Town Hall from Arun District Council, which will likely require a small increase in the Town Council precept, which forms part of residents’ council tax. The form will take no longer than two minutes to complete and we would be very grateful for your views!

A final reminder that the Town Council’s Annual Town Meeting of Electors takes place this coming Monday 16th March. During this open public forum, residents of Bognor Regis are encouraged to ask questions to their Town Councillors on any issues or topics concerning the Town. We will also be joined by the Area Manager of the new Premier Inn Hotel, who will be sharing their plans for opening and their presence in the Town. You do not need to register to attend, simply come along to the Town Hall, from 6.30pm Monday evening and get involved!
