New affordable council homes to be built in East Sussex village
Wealden District Council (WDC) said 12 new affordable rent homes are being built in Buxted.
WDC made the announcement on Monday, October 26, at www.wealden.gov.uk, saying the homes would be for Wealden residents in need of housing.
The council said ten of the homes at the Coopers Green development will be for affordable rent. These include five one-bedroom flats, two one-bedroom maisonettes, two two-bedroom houses and one three-bedroom house.
Two two-bedroom houses will also be sold through Shared Ownership, a part-buy, part-rent scheme, to help residents get on the property ladder.

Councillor Daniel Manvell, Alliance for Wealden (Labour Party) and lead councillor for Housing, Benefits and Revenues, said: “Coopers Green builds on the success of Coronation Place and demonstrates our continued commitment to delivering high-quality, energy-efficient homes across Wealden.”
WDC said a brick-laying ceremony took place at the housing development recently, bringing together project partners for a guided tour and so that they could lay bricks in the homes under construction.
Councillor Manvell said: “This work we do of providing affordable housing to our residents is part of a four-year programme to build and purchase approximately 170 new affordable council homes and the Coopers Green development will help the council towards that goal.
“We have focused on building smaller one-and two-bedroom properties, as we know these are in high demand and will help meet the needs of residents. Alongside this investment, we have worked closely with developers, housing associations and other partners to increase the supply of affordable housing across Wealden.
“Last year, 506 new affordable homes were built in the district – this means that 40 pert cent of all new homes delivered were affordable. This is significant progress and I would like to thank the project teams for their hard work in delivering the affordable housing for Wealden residents.”
WDC said the development is expected to be finished in 2027. People can find out more about the Shared Ownership homes by emailing [email protected].
