• Plans to create six flats above a shop in Worthing town centre have been submitted, following prior approval for four flats.

Lewis and Co Planning SE has made an application to Worthing Borough Council on behalf of Moretons Investments, which added 25 - 27 Montague Street to its property portfolio in 2024.

Outdoor clothing retailer Trespass occupies the shop at ground level, with storage at first floor level and above, as well as within the basement.

Permission is sought for change of use of the two upper floors from commercial to six residential flats, with shopfront alterations to create a new entrance and insertion of rear windows.

The planning statement says: “The location of the site is ideal for residential accommodation. The location is highly sustainable and occupiers would benefit from the excellent sustainable transport connections within the immediate locality.”

Prior approval for change of use to four flats was given in August, on condition secure, covered cycle parking and bin storage be provided. This application includes such storage, meaning a small area of the shop will be lost at the rear, beyond the staffroom, toilet and dressing room.

• A business based at Rudford Industrial Estate in Ford is seeking permission to keep its temporary building for a further ten years.

Mr Ian Walker has made the application to Arun District Council on behalf of Bewi Packaging & Components (UK) Limited.

The flat-pack unit provides much-needed additional storage. The council previously granted temporary permission for three years, ending in November 2026.

• Builder JW Stratton wants to create addition parking spaces at The Gilberts in Rustington to ease congestion.

ECE Architecture has made an appliction to Arun District Council on behalf of the developer for five additional off-street car parking spaces within existing residential site in Harsfold Road.

The spaces would be formed through the partial reconfiguration of existing soft landscaped areas within the site.

The covering letter states: “The development currently benefits from off-street parking provision; however, this is demonstrably insufficient relative to the scale and occupancy of the site.

“The resultant shortfall has given rise to informal and displaced parking along internal access routes, creating localised congestion, reducing the efficiency of vehicle circulation, and presenting a potential impediment to emergency and service vehicle access.”

A previous application in April was withdrawn as it did not fit the exemption requirements for small developments. It has now been resubmitted following updated regulations in August.
