Storm Boelo: Thousands of homes in Sussex affected by power cuts

Thousands of homes in Sussex are experiencing power cuts amid severe weather brought by Storm Boelo.

The second named storm of the season brought strong winds to the coast this weekend, causing disruption and damage across the county.

Met Office Chief Forecaster, Jason Kelly said: “People should prepare for the potential for disruption, particularly to travel and power supplies. Secure loose items outside, plan ahead if you are travelling and keep up to date with the latest forecast and warnings for your area.”

UK Power Networks said it is working to restore power in several parts of the South East.

Homes in and around Pulborough , Storrington, Petworth, Billingshurst, Horsham and Arundel are among those affected in West Sussex. In East Sussex, outages have been reported in and around Battle, Nutley and Herstmonceux.

A UK Power Networks spokesperson said: “We're continuing to support customers who are still affected by Storm Boelo.

"Our engineers are working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power in parts of the South East and East of England.

"We’re sorry for the disruption and understand how difficult it is to be without power.

"We have additional teams working to restore power and support customers. Our electricity network is built to be resilient but extreme weather can affect overhead power lines. We urge the public to stay well clear from power lines and anyone spotting a damaged power line needs to report it to us immediately.”
