'Boomed round the stadium' - Paul Scholes gives Fabian Hurzeler verdict after watching Brighton train at Salford City
Brighton impressed in their Premier League against Manchester City
Former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Scholes was blown away by Brighton's recent training session.
The Seagulls had an extended stay in Manchester last week and used Salford City's facilities in between their Carabao Cup and Premier League clashes - both against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Brighton lost on penalties in the Carabao but exacted swift revenge in the Premier League with an impressive 1-0 win.
Prior to the second match against City, Scholes watched Fabian Hurzeler and his coaching staff prepare the Seagulls at Salford’s AIG Stadium.
Scholes: It was so impressive
Scholes, speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast to his former Manchester United teammate Nicky Butt, said:
"Brighton trained at Salford's ground on Friday before the City game. It was so impressive. What a watch for a good hour, hour and 15 minutes.
"The level of coaching, I'd not really seen anything like that before. From all the staff, right from the fitness coaches, sports scientists.
"What they did first, they just walked through how they were going to press City. A simple walkthrough from one of Fabian Herzeler's coaches, clear, precise.
"The best thing you can do as a coach is just be clear. You don't need loads and loads of information, just little bits.
"The number six here, you go there. It was simple, but it was loud. It boomed round the stadium.”
Fabian Hurzeler ‘steps in’
Quite the compliment from Scholes who spent almost his entire playing career under Sir Alex Ferguson, who is regarded as one of the best football managers of all time.
Scholes added: "Nicky will tell you, a coach needs a proper voice. Might sound a bit weird, but Steve McLaren did a brilliant job.
"Fabian Hurzeler just walks round us watching, steps in every now and again with a few words.
"Then they went into a little warm-up they do. Again, the fitness coach is so enthusiastic. It makes you want to do it, you know what I mean? It gets you going.
"You could see exactly what they were trying to do to go on and win the game. I was really impressed."
Brighton are currently third in the Premier League and are the highest scorers in the division.
Tomorrow Hurzeler takes his Seagulls to La Liga club Getafe in the Conference League and on Sunday they face Keith Andrews’ Brentford team at the Amex Stadium.
