Brighton make major deadline-day breakthrough as contract with exciting winger agreed

All the latest transfer news and gossip for Brighton and Hove Albion

Brighton appear to have secured the services of their star winger Amario Cozier-Duberry.

The future of the former Arsenal winger looked uncertain throughout the summer transfer window as the Seagulls fended off bids of around £7m from Rangers and Belgian club Anderlecht.

Albion had reportedly been in contract talks with Cozier-Duberry and the Athletic have reported that an agreement has now been reached.

The 21-year-old now looks set to sign a new contract with Brighton and will be loaned to a Championship club this season. The club is at this stage unknown, although West Ham and Bolton have both previously been linked.

Cozier-Duberry impressed while on loan in League One Bolton last term and helped them secure promotion to the Championship.

He scored nine goals, with 13 assists from 37 appearances for Steven Schumacher’s team.

Hurzeler on Cozier-Duberry

Sussex World asked Fabian Hurzeler about Cozier Duberry’s situation last week. The German said:” It's very important to identify what is best for him, where he gets the most minutes to develop, and therefore we have to make the decision together with the player.

“We are in a very transparent and open exchange, so let's see what the next days say.”

Sussex World verdict

This is very welcome news for Brighton fans. Many thought he might push for the first team this season after his impressive spell at Bolton.

He featured in Tromso for Albion’s Uefa Conference League play-off last month but missed the second leg due to illness.

Rangers and Anderlecht were both keen on a permanent move this window but Brighton clearly feel he has a future at the club, or the potential to increase his value further while on loan in the Championship.

Another impressive season in the second tier will likely see his transfer value increase.
