Former Manchester United and Arsenal star Welbeck has signed two successive one-year deals since moving to the Amex, and it appears the 31-year-old will extend his stay at the Seagulls.

Welbeck has netted 11 goals in 48 Premier League games since moving from Watford in 2020.

German midfielder Groß, meanwhile, is out of contract in the summer.

The 30-year-old, who has made 154 Premier League appearances for Albion since signing from FC Ingolstadt 04 in 2017, is also expected to see his contract extended.

Speaking ahead of Brighton’s final Premier League game of the season, at home to West Ham, Potter said: “Pascal and Danny are really close to agreeing everything for next year, just the formalities, which is great.

“They are two guys that have played massive roles for us.

“Pascal for longer in terms of the time he’s been at the club. He’s been really important in my time here, great on and off the pitch.

“The same with Danny. You can see recently in his performances he is enjoying his football and he’s injury-free, which is massive for him and for us.”
