Laing outlines hopes and plans for ‘sleeping giant’ Shoreham
New Shoreham manager Alex Laing has spoken of his excitement at taking over at a ‘sleeping giant’.
The ex-Lancing, Littlehampton and Musselmen player has been appointed after the departure of Connor Cox, with the Middle Road side struggling at the wrong end of Division 1 of the SCFL.
Laing’s playing career began when he was a scholar at Crawley Town and also included spells with Worthing, Lewes, Horsham and Burgess Hill.
He told us: “The Shoreham job is one I’ve had my eye on for a while. The club is a sleeping giant, in my opinion.

“The aim short term is to climb as quickly as we can and then assess maybe around Christmas time to see where we are. Long-term I want to get us out this division.
“I want to see how it works for me first, then eventually – although I disagree with the concept of the UEFA badges, get them, as you need them to progress and manage higher levels. I’d like within a few years to find myself at Isthmian level, hopefully with Shoreham.”
Joe Southam stays in the backroom team and Matthew Fleming has moved from Saltdean to join the staff.
