A flurry of inter-club fixtures together with regular club roll-ups kept Marine Garden bowlers on their toes this week.

A good start was made in a Brodie league match away at Steyning where Marine Gardens won on all 4 rinks with a winning overall score of 79-50. Liz Baldwin, John Nettleingham, Trevor Punnett and Rod Smith picked up Top Rink honours with an impressive 24-8 victory.
The first of 3 friendly matches was a closely run affair at home against Bilingshurst who battled well for a 2-2 draw only to lose the match by 6 shots (69-63). Seeing Marine Gardens over the winning line were Patsy Nicholson, Leon White and Bob Cole with a 26-10 victory. The following day there was another close encounter at home against Pulborough when each team won 1 lost 1 and drew 1.
Pulborough however clinched the match with a convincing 59-43 shot advantage. The meritorious 23-7 victory achieved by Alan Paterson, Bill Hurren and Trevor Punnett was enough to win Top Rink honours for Marine Gardens but no more. Rottingdean also registered 59 shots against Marine Gardens which proved to be enough to record a home victory having drawn the games 2 apiece (59-53).
In a tight finish Patsy Nicholson, Brian Harrison and Ken Leadbeater earned Top Rink honours for Marine Gardens with a 17-13 win. Another enjoyable afternoon at Rottingdean with a number of players making away match debuts. Well done!
