This Sunday, the village comes together to remember those who lost their lives in war at a Service of Remembrance in St Mary’s Church starting at 10.15am, and moving to the War Memorial in time for the two minute silence and laying of wreaths, during which time the road will be closed.

I was interested to read a suggestion that the first minute is to honour and remember the millions who died or were wounded in war, and the second minute is a tribute to those who survived, including the families, veterans, and communities forever changed by conflict. However we use the time, a moment for remembrance and reflection.

Lots of exercise classes in the Village Hall throughout the week, with Table Tennis and Badminton also in Pretious Sports Hall.

On Tuesday, the WI will be hearing about the history and work of the Cats Protection Society. Meetings are held in the Village Hall starting at 2pm.

On Tuesday evening, the Historical and Literary Society will be finding out all the details of the disaster in 1287 which destroyed Old Winchelsea. David Dennis is the speaker – visitors are always welcome for a small charge.

Thursday brings us the Seniors’ Club with chat, a home-cooked meal and some form of entertainment. New members are always welcome, so contact Denise – 07858 145155 – if you know someone who would enjoy a social day out. 10.30am to 2pm. Lifts can be arranged.

The Library is open 2-4pm on Thursdays and Saturdays and the Nat West mobile bank calls 2.45-3.30pm on Thursdays, in the Village Hall car park.

This month’s Parish Council meeting will be held in the Village Hall on Thursday at 7pm. The agenda and associated paperwork will be available on the parish council’s website: northiamparishcouncil.gov.uk.

We are very sorry to be saying farewell to Revd Kate Bailey and her husband, John, who are ready to embrace their well-earned retirement after nearly four years at the heart of the village. Kate's final service will be on Sunday 29th November at 10.30am as we celebrate Advent Sunday in the middle of our Christmas Tree Festival, and we hope to see many people there.

Additionally, we will have the chance for a more informal chat and goodbye at the next Pop-Up pub in the Village Hall on Saturday 21st November. We are suggesting that anyone who would like to could bring a plate of finger food to share to supplement the excellent range of drinks on sale. Kate & John will be at the Pop-Up from about 6pm, so do save the date to drop in and have a chat
