World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, which took place on 10th October, offered an important opportunity to reflect on the care, compassion and expertise that hospices provide every day to people facing the challenges of a life-limiting illness.

While the day itself has passed, its message remains as relevant as ever. For many local families, hospice care is not simply about medical support. It is about helping people make the most of the time they have, maintaining independence, finding comfort, and creating meaningful moments with those they love.

At St Wilfrid's Hospice, Chichester, we see this every day. Whether supporting someone at home, on our Inpatient Unit, or through our wellbeing and bereavement services, our focus is always on helping people live well, with dignity and reassurance.

This year's theme highlighted the importance of pain management, but hospice care extends far beyond symptom control. It provides emotional support, practical guidance and expert advice for families navigating some of life's most difficult circumstances. It also gives many people greater choice about where and how they receive their care.

As demand for hospice services continues to grow, the need for community support grows too. St Wilfrid's Hospice is an independent charity, and much of the care we provide is only possible because local people choose to support us through donations, fundraising, volunteering and gifts in Wills.

Every contribution, no matter its size, helps ensure that individuals and families across our community can continue to access specialist care and support when they need it most.

World Hospice and Palliative Care Day may last for just one day, but the need for hospice care exists every day of the year. By supporting your local hospice, you are helping ensure that compassionate, expert care remains available for local people now and for future generations.
